Chorister Awards in Wessex

Congratulations to the choristers who were successful in the recent examinations at Salisbury.
Dean's/Bronze Award: Lydia MacDonald and Imogen Spurrell (St. John the Baptist, Devizes), Luke Sharman, (St. George's, Oakdale), Byron Davis-Hughes (Sherborne Abbey); Passed with Merit Kristie Newham, Katie Newham, Robin Ellis (Amesbury Abbey), Rachael Ibbetson (St. John the Baptist, Devizes) and Joshua Smith (Sherborne Abbey). The second RSCM Young Voices Festival for children and young people in the RSCM Wessex area will take place in Salisbury Cathedral on Saturday afternoon 6th November 2010, directed by Ian Wicks.

If this is your situation then two Saturday afternoon workshops led by Trevor Jarvis at Sarum College, one on March 27th and one on July 10th, could be helpful to you. A friendly, positive and encouraging afternoon with a chance to share experiences, ideas, concerns and aspirations. You could make an afternoon of it with a visit to the cathedral Refectory for tea followed by Evensong.

The Wessex Psalter

The Wessex Psalter includes the complete Coverdale BCP Psalter with chants, notes on the psalms explaining archaic language and historical and cultural contexts. This book, edited by Jon Riding and Nick Hale, has been three years in the making following the fire at St.John's, Devizes. For more information see www.wessexpsalter.co.uk.

Music Sunday 2010

The RSCM has launched Music Sunday 2010, bringing together a celebration of music with fundraising. Participating churches will be able to celebrate and affirm the work of their musicians and combine it with a fund-raising campaign to be split on a 50:50 basis, between the church itself and RSCM. The date is Sunday 13th June 2010. Suggested prayers,readings and music for the occasion are to be found at

'The Beginnings of Songs of Praise'
